Everyday Grocery List

What should we eat? How much should we eat? We see all of these type of statements everyday. It can be overwhelming and time consuming to research everything. Eating well for our health can be very difficult and very expensive, also. In our fast paced lives we tend to give up. Don't give up. Try to keep it simple and make a meal plan for the week ahead. A list at the grocery store and a meal plan on the calendar can be an organized change for us and very cost-effective.

Antioxidants can protect our cells from damage. We need them daily in our diets, here are a few ideas:

Beta-carotene - found many foods, listed here are a few basic and easy foods to find, sweet potatoes, carrots, cantaloupe, squash, mango, apricots, & pumpkin. Some green, leafy vegetables, spinach, and kale.

Lutein - abundant in green, leafy vegetables such as collard greens, spinach, and kale.

Lycopene is found in many foods, here are a few easy choices, tomatoes, watermelon, guava, papaya, apricots, pink grapefruit and blood oranges.

Vitamin A - sweet potatoes, carrots, milk, egg yolks, and mozzarella cheese.

Vitamin C - fruits and vegetables.

Vitamin E - mango, nuts, broccoli, almonds.

Selenium found in rice and wheat is a component of antioxidant enzymes.

Starting your day with a protein drink full of nutrition is a great start if that's easier for you, then plan your meals with the foods listed above. Try to stay away from the prepared food aisles at your grocery. Eat the rainbow with veggie choices. Fun right? Think this, - we are alive, so we need to eat foods that are alive also.

Make it simple, healthy and fresh. Snack on slices of fresh fruit, veggies, healthy proteins, and nuts. I love Pinterest for visuals here! I have a Lean and Green board with some nice ideas!

Organic when you can so the chemicals are limited in your foods!

Healthy protein ideas -

Almonds, Tofu, Cashew nuts, Baked Beans, Peanut Butter, Chick Peas, Asparagus, Watercress, Brussels Sprouts, Lentils, Broccoli, Turkey, Chicken, Organic Eggs, Greek Yogurt, Spinach, Nut Butters, White Fish, and Quinoa, are just a few!

Spinach Quiche with a side of sweet potatoes sounds wonderful about now! A large salad filled with veggies sounds good or how about a snack plate of mozzarella cheese and tomatoes!

We can eat healthy and we can stay healthy!
